Festival of Heroes (GS-ADV1)
You have spent your life learning about precious gemstones and the qualities they possess. You have discovered that many precious stones in other planes can be trained to hold souls. Perhaps that can happen in Ulos as well?
Watching the festival attendees enjoying themselves, you feel sorry for them. Their lives are fleeting. Your creations will last far longer then they will. And, if the rumors are true, you may be able to outlast them as well. Stories abound of Kayok the Slipperquick, an elderly Kaiika, has unlocked the magic of the stones. You hope to learn from him and use the magic on yourself, trapping your soul in a gemstone for eternity.
Getting to the Frozen Expanse will not be easy. Joining the Heroes Guild is your best opportunity. They can offer you protection while you go about your quest.
Fighting side by side with the Immortal Knight, you wonder if Azema has offered the secret of eternal life to the bearer of the Immortal Helm. You ask Imbri about it bluntly.
“No. It is the responsibility that is immortal, not any of its bearers. Ulos will forever be in need of a great hero’s protection.” - Imbri - Explorer's Guide (GS-Guide-ADV1-20)
You take great notice of the exquisite red gem in the hilt of the Immortal Blade. You speculate that perhaps the stone could be trained to absorb souls, making the Immortal Knight truly immortal. - Explorer's Guide (GS-Guide-ADV1-3)
Servants of Azema (GS-ADV2)
In the Temple of Ulos, you take notice of the blue opals used in the statue of Shissatissk. A Kaiika pristess informs you that they contain the soul of the Leviathan that once hunted Kaiika.
The priestess offers you:
- A chance to commune with the Leviathan.
- The opportunity to receive a blessing from her.
If you choose to commune, you feel transported to dark waters. You can feel the Leviathan swimming around you. The mind of the great beast melds with your own, allowing you to sense its pain and desire to swim free.
“The magic of binding souls to stone is not kind, but it can be a just punishment.” - Priestess - Servants of Azema (GS-ADV2)
If you choose to receive a blessing, you have visions of Shissatissk. You feel strengthened from her blessing.
“The power you seek can be used for good or ill. For your own sake, be sure your intentions are pure.” - Priestess - Servants of Azema (GS-ADV2)
The Hive (GS-ADV3)
While Nayo is explaining the virtues of the Insectoid ichor and her own experiments, you take a moment to inspect the cavern walls. You notice a streak of pale stone. It smells of fresh grass. A clear sign that it is a yolkstone deposit.
Picking at the clay like substance, you reveal several gemstones. Nayo takes an interest in your find.
- Offer Nayo the yolkstones. The pain she feels subsides.
- Keep them for yourself. They will provide you with wealth.
Ascending Kethra's Steppe (GS-ADV4)
Kethra has met your party at the entrance to another plane. Your previous alliances will determine your encounter. Your discipline and studies have strengthened your mind and may very well help prepare you for the tests ahead of you.
Saurian Wasteland (GS-ADV5)
Your party discovers a subterranean lake. You wade into the unknown waters. A gigantic frog of living crystal rises up from the water. If your party chooses to fight the creature, your knowledge of crystals may help find a weakness in its flesh.
You encounter Yuvan Rokta in a crude shelter. Having helped him previously, he asks for your guidance.
Despite offering advice, he is not sure if he should trust you. He attempts to mentally intrude into your thoughts. Your preparation for melding your soul with a stone helps you resist his intrusions. (GS-Guide-ADV5-9 & ADV5-10)
The Frozen Expanse (GS-ADV6)
You find Kayok the Slipperyquick in the tiny town of Yulora. You watch in awe as he shapes the snow around him with the help of a magic gem.
If you chose to commune with the leviathan earlier, Kayok the Slipperyquick is aware of your choice. Using an open stone, he summons the shape of the leviathan from the nearby snow and tosses the snow into its maw. You leap into its mouth and retrieve the stone.
If, instead, you had received a blessing from the priestess, Kayok holds up an already opened stone. Summoning the form of Shissatissk, he tosses the stone into the icy water. You dive in and retrieve it quickly.
With the stone in your possession, Kayok challenges you to learn more about gemstone magic.
“Speak your name to the stone, and your soul will be bound to it forever. But, is that really what you want?” - Kayok the Slipperyquick - The Frozen Expanse (GS-ADV6)
- Speak your name to the stone and bond with it for eternity.
- Ask the stone to close itself. You vow to continue studying and shaping stones.
You have finally achieved the knowledge you sought. Your quest has come to an end.
